Where are You Reading 2011 Challenge
Hosted by Sheila at Book Journey
This Challenge starts January 1, 2011 - December 31st 2011. The Challenge consists of reading at least one book that covers each of the 50 states of America and you can add as many other countries as you like.So how do you decide what state a book is categorized under?
1. In a fiction read it would be the State or Country that the book spends the most time in. (Ie. If your main character is from Wisconsin but the book is all about his/her time in college in California - the books should categorize under California....)2. Non fiction reads categorize in whatever State or Country it is about (Ie.... a book about fly fishing in Colorado is a Colorado point, and a book about women in Afghanistan is an Afghanistan point.
How to get started
Set up a map under Google Maps. It is easy to do! Every time you read a book in 2011, upload a cover picture to Picasa Web Albums (there may be other sites to use, feel free to use what works best for you).Questions?
Do you have to have a blog to participate? No. You can do everything on the map above without linking the book to a review.Do I have to have my post up by January 1st, 2011? No, but I would think you would want to get started right away at the beginning of the year. However, you will be able to sign up throughout January as well.
How will people see my map? There are a couple of possibilities. On your original challenge post you should have a link to your map. You could also put it on your side bar to draw interest to it (see mine on my left side bar)
Once you are ready and have your map set up please create a blog post (those who have blogs) using the Challenge picture of the map I provided above as well as link to this post so others may join in. Then come back and link that post here to Mr Linky so I as well as other participants know that you are participating and we can pop in throughout the year to check out your map and how we are all doing.
This is actually a fun and easy challenge as all books you read qualify and it will be fun to see where you generally read books from as well as searching out books to fill in areas that you need.
For those who have covered the 50 states by the end of 2011, they will go into a drawing for a $50 gift card to Barnes and Noble or to Amazon. ** All other areas beyond the 50 states are bonus points and we will have a drawing using random.org for those who read 10 or more books throughout 2011 in that category.
You can see my map I worked on in 2010 here to see what the map looks like and how the pictures link to the reviews. (If you zoom in you will see the individual areas I read in and clicking on the blue pins will show you what book it was and clicking on the picture will take you to the post!
That's it! Any questions - please leave them in the comments section below. :D
I can't wait to see Where You Are Reading!

Award-winning playwright, television writer, and documentary filmmaker Adriana Trigiani returns withBrava, Valentine, continuing the heartwarming and hilarious story of Valentine Roncalli, her family, her love life, and the Angelini Shoe Company. When Valentine’s grandmother begins a new life in Italy, she places Valentine and her nemesis, her brother Alfred, “the Prince,” as partners at the Angelini Shoe Company, makers of handcrafted wedding shoes since 1903. A once-in-a-lifetime business opportunity takes Valentine from the winding streets of Greenwich Village to the sun-kissed cobblestones of Buenos Aires, where she unearths a long-buried family secret and finds herself torn between a past love that nurtured her and a new one that promises to sustain her, in this “dazzling” (USA Today) follow-up to Very Valentine.

My Review:
I won't lie... When I started reading Brava Valentine I sincerely thought it was another chick lit book. I don't know if I was in a mood or what but when I started reading I got this Ughhh feeling. It was a lazy Sunday and I didn't have anything else to read so I made myself keep going and I am so glad I did. Brava, Valentine is a joy. One of the things I love in books is when I get to go to different places around the world. I got to go to a couple of really nice ones in this one and didn't even need a passport. Adriana is very descriptive and you can see right where you are. It was such a great book and I really enjoyed it. This is the second book of the series but I am happy to say it did read as a stand alone book. However, I have been reading the first one, Very Valentine the last couple of days and it is just as good. I can't wait for the third book.

What Are You Reading Monday ( well tuesday)
I know I am a day late with this but I had tour yesterday so I had to wait:)
This is a fabulous Neme brought to us by Sheila at Book Journey:) Sheila is a great bookie friend and I dearly admire her:)
This week I am reading the finalist books for the Inspy Awards. Also I picked up two books from the library that I have been wanting to read for awhile:
I'd Know You Anywhere
by Laura Lippman
The Dressmaker
by Posie Greame-Evans
I will admit The Dressmaker is a little out of my reading zone but I was intrigued by the cover and the story looked good so I picked it up:)
That is it for this week. With it being a holiday weekend I will be constricted for time and also we are taking a trip to see Harry Potter. My oldest daughter is a huge Harry Potter fan and is really looking forward to it.
Have a good week everyone and

Lost Lustre Blog Tour
Muggings on Avenue C, punk bands at CBGB, youthful romance in Greenwich Village, parties in a nascent SoHo, dropping out from the famous Music & Art High School. In this episodic, coming of age memoir, Josh Karlen chronicles growing up in New York’s Greenwich Village, East Village, and crime-ridden Alphabet City in the 70s and early 80s. Lost Lustre recaptures a downtown Manhattan at a pivotal time of the city’s history, when New York was suffering its gravest financial crisis and soaring crime, yet also was home for a spectacular resurgence of the arts. Karlen shares a fascinating personal history of the punk rock scene through a prism of The Lustres, a band that played venues such as CBGB a few years after its stage had held the Talking Heads, Patti Smith and the Ramones. In the title chapter, Karlen poignantly pays homage ot the band’s charismatic and talented lead singer, whose life in many ways seemed to mirror his times in both its shining creativity and nihilistically destructive force.
“A window into a darker, grittier version of the city…[Karlen's] memories of living in the rough neighborhood known as Alphabet City are vibrant…”–Publishers Weekly
“Lost Lustre is a reverberant, strata-rich memoir, written with a relaxed and endearing fluency and modesty. I was engrossed.”–Edward Hoagland, author of NOTES FROM THE CENTURY BEFORE
Listen to basement tapes of The Lustres, circa 1980!

Indulgence In Death- Review
My Review:
I have been a fan of this series ever since my MIL turned me onto it several years ago. I am always eagerly awaiting the next installment. I usually devour them the minute I get them but this one was really hard to get into. I thought at first it was because I was on vacation and my mind just wasn't on it but even after getting home I found myself struggling to get into it. I found that Robb's balance of cases and personal lives is getting really off kilter. While I really love Robb's mystery aspect I also love the personal aspect and it has been missing from the books for awhile. Now, to be fair she does normally touch base with the side kicks ( peabody, charles, mavis, etc) but she doesn't really reveal anything new about them. I miss reading about their lives or even having a case centered around one. This is one of those series where you really care about the characters. Also, the beginning was really nice because we got to see a lot of interaction with Roarkes family.
I will give credit where credit is due. We did see a big change in Eve. She did things this time that were really shocking:) Eve is definitely growing as human being and it is really nice to see. However, I miss the fire in her. I miss the fights between her and Roarke. Eve has become slightly boring.
Even the murders were boring. They had a been there done that feel. It was almost as if Robb just threw them in there to fill out the pages.
I am really at a loss on how to rate this book. I will just say if you have read the series then read this book because you need to keep up with the story line and there is some funny stuff in it. However if you have not read this series do not start here. Start at the beginning when the series was at it's finest.
I was very happy to find out the next book Treachery in Death

Operation Thriller
THIS IS SO AWESOME! Had to post it:) Thanks Trish for sending it to me:)
Five of today's most critically acclaimed thriller writers (left to right) Douglas Preston, Steve Berry, David Morrell, James Rollins, and Andy Harp posed for a group photo during a USO meet-and-greet in Kuwait on November 8, 2010. Part of a week-long USO tour entitled "Operation Thriller," the authors were in the Middle East extending America's heartfelt thanks to US troops.
Thanks to these authors for taking the time to honor our troops and thanks to the troops for putting their life on the line everyday so that we can sleep easy at night:)

• Publisher: Harper Perennial (November 2, 2010)
Wally Lamb, the beloved #1 New York Timesbestselling author of The Hour I First Believed, I Know This Much Is True, and She’s Come Undone, delivers a holiday treat with Wishin’ and Hopin’—an unforgettable novella of warmth and joy. Poignant and hilarious, in a vein similar to Jean Shepherd’s A Christmas Story and David Sedaris’sThe Santaland Diaries, Lamb’s Christmas tale focuses on a feisty parochial school fifth grader named Felix Funicello—a distant cousin of the iconic Annette!
About Wally Lamb
Wally Lamb’s first two novels, She’s Come Undone (Simon & Schuster/Pocket, 1992) and I Know This Much Is True(HarperCollins/ReganBooks, 1998), were # 1 New York Timesbestsellers, New York Times Notable Books of the Year, and featured titles of Oprah’s Book Club. I Know This Much Is True was a Book of the Month Club main selection and the June 1999 featured selection of the Bertelsman Book Club, the national book club of Germany. Between them, She’s Come Undone and I Know This Much Is True have been translated into eighteen languages.
Lamb is also the editor of the nonfiction anthologiesCouldn’t Keep It to Myself: Testimonies from Our Imprisoned Sisters(HarperCollins/ReganBooks, 2003) and I’ll Fly Away (HarperCollins, 2007), collections of autobiographical essays which evolved from a writing workshop Lamb facilitates at Connecticut’s York Correctional Institute, a maximum-security prison for women. He has served as a Connecticut Department of Corrections volunteer from 1999 to the present.
Wally Lamb is a Connecticut native who holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in teaching from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Vermont College. Lamb was in the ninth year of his twenty-five-year career as a high school English teacher at his alma mater, the Norwich Free Academy, when he began to write fiction in 1981. He has also taught writing at the University of Connecticut, where he directed the English Department’s creative writing program.
Wally and Christine Lamb are the parents of three sons, Jared, Justin, and Teddy.

Heidegger's Glasses-Blog Tour
About Heidegger’s Glasses
Hardcover: 320 pages
Publisher: Counterpoint (November 1, 2010)
A mysterious compound deep underground.
A love affair larger than a World War.
A fairy tale with atrocities.
And it all begins with one single letter….
A love affair larger than a World War.
A fairy tale with atrocities.
And it all begins with one single letter….
Heidegger’s Glasses opens during the end of World War II in a failing Germany coming apart at the seams. The Third Reich’s strong reliance on the occult and its obsession with the astral plane has led to the formation of an underground compound of scribes–translators responsible for answering letters written to those eventually killed in the concentration camps.
Into this covert compound comes a letter written by eminent philosopher Martin Heidegger to his optometrist, who is now lost in the dying thralls of Auschwitz. How will the scribes answer this letter? The presence of Heidegger’s words–one simple letter in a place filled with letters–sparks a series of events that will ultimately threaten the safety and well-being of the entire compound.
Part love story, part thriller, part meditation on how the dead are remembered and history presented, with threads of Heidegger’s philosophy woven throughout, the novel evocatively illustrates the Holocaust from an entirely original vantage point.
“Frank’s vision of the Holocaust is original and startling, with compelling characters and a narrative that’s both explosive and ponderous.”–Publisher’s Weekly (starred review)
“This is stunning work, full of mystery and strange tenderness. Thaisa Frank has written one of the most compelling stories of the Nazi regime since D.M. Thomas’s PIctures at an Exhibition. It is a book that will haunt you.”–Dan Chaon, author of Await Your Reply
“A spellbinding, innovative, intellectually compelling tour-de-force. Thaisa Frank’s imagination is boundless: she enchants and horrifies and moves us, often on the same page.” Michele Hunevan, author of Blame
About Thaisa
Thaisa Frank has written three books of fiction, including A Brief History of Camouflageand Sleeping in Velvet (both with Black Sparrow Press, now acquired by David Godine). She has co-authored a work of nonfiction, Finding Your Writers Voice: A Guide to Creative Fiction, which is used in MFA programs. Her forthcoming novel, Heidegger’s Glasses, is coming out this fall with Counterpoint Press. Foreign rights have already been sold to ten countries.
Thaisa has taught in the graduate programs at San Francisco State, the University of San Francisco, been on the staff of various summer writing workshops, and written essays, including a recent Afterward in Viking/Penguin’s new edition of Voltaire. My Review:
Wow, what to say about this book. I was so intrigued while reading it. It is dark, dramatic, and just, WOW. I have read countless books about the Holocaust but nothing like this one. It was so compelling I couldn't not turn a page. It was almost as if the book had a hold on me that just wouldn't let go until I finished. It had a story to tell me, it needed to tell me and I couldn't stop until the end. Ending, such a final word but this book doesn't end. It stays in your mind and lingers there like an old memory that resurfaces every now and again. I am still trying to figure out what spoke to me more. What Frank had to say or what she didn't say. The subtlety of this book was so enchanting, so engrossing. I just can't say enough about it. I want to spoil the book, lol. I want to tell everyone about it. That's not fair though because this is one of those rare books that you need to experience yourself. It is one of those rare books that when you finish you wish you hadn't because you want to experience it all over again. Re-reading it just isn't the same. This is definitely one of my top books of 2010.
A rarity here at 'Til We Read Again would be for me to recommend a book to everyone. However, I am recommending this book to every reader out there. You need to experience it. It may not be your cup of tea or you may even come over here and tell me you hated it. That's okay because at least you experienced this unique book. I am so grateful I got the chance to receive this book and read it. It has been a long time since I have read a book that has enchanted me, engrossed me and above all shocked me. Not by it's plot or anything but by the fact it crept in and placed itself on top of my must read list. That is an amazing feat by itself. I want thank Thaisa Frank for drawing me into such a world and for bringing me such a book. Just WOW.
