I'm Sorry

I had a whole bunch of stuff planned for Banned Book Week but unfortunately real life has got in the way. I haven't had any time to read. We have had drama after drama and real life has to come first right now.

I will be back later in the week and hopefully will be able to get a few things in before the week is out.

Killing Mr. Griffin-- Banned Books Week

Killing Mr. GriffinMr. Griffin is the strictest teacher at Del Norte High, with a penchant for endless projects and humiliating his students. Even straight-A student Susan can't believe how mean he is to the charismatic Mark Kinney. So when her crush asks Susan to help a group of students teach a lesson of their own, she goes along. After all, it's a harmless prank, right?

But things don't go according to plan. When one "accident" leads to another, people begin to die. Susan and her friends must face the awful truth: one of them is a killer.

Why the book was proposed to be ban: From what I can gather this book was proposed to be banned because of the subject matter and some mild adult language.

My Review
High school Seniors Jeff, Betsy and David along with High school Junior Sue decide to kidnap their very strict English teacher Mr. Griffin. Their ringleader Mark assured them that everything would go off without a hitch. Unfortunately even the best laid plans go awry. Mr. Griffin ends up dying and it sparks a chain of events that no one was prepared for. This book is geared toward 7-12th graders but I still felt it was good read.  I really felt for Mr. Griffin and don't even want to think about what he might have gone through all them hours alone. I think it would be a good book for kids to read because maybe it would teach them something about not following the crowd or even explain why some teacher may be tough on them. It was sad and the ending really touched my heart.

Banned Book Week

the week of September 25th through October 2nd 'Til We Read Again will be participating in Banned Books Week. I am doing this to raise awareness of books that have been added to a ban list. Thankfully a lot of the books have not been banned thanks to individuals that have fought for the right to keep these books accessible and on the library shelves. Everyone should have the right to read a book regardless of whether or not someone else agrees with it. Authors should be able to write what they feel and express themselves without the worry of persecution from other individuals.

What will I be doing this week? I have a couple of things planned.  I have chosen 3 books that are on the ban list to read and review. I will be doing the reviews this week. Also, I will be doing some posts and including books from the ban list a long with why they may have ended up on there. Lastly in these posts I will be adding information about different websites where you can read about these books and about Banned Books Week.

Very Honored:)

I am so honored to have been chosen to be a panel judge for the INSPY's Awards. I will be judging the Amish fiction category and I am very excited about it. If you go HERE and scroll down you will see me in all my glory:)

I think these awards are a wonderful idea and it will be a lot of fun to participate and read some great books. I am actually a huge fan of Amish fiction even though I don't do reviews for it very often.

Enquiring Minds Want to Know!

I found this fabulous Neme on Dollycas's Thoughts and just had to do it! I am so sorry I missed the first 3 weeks:( I love getting to know bloggers and followers so I thought this was a good way to do it:)

Feel free to answer these questions in the comments below and don't forget to stop by Dollycas's and leave some love and join in on the fun!!

Each Thursday I will post 3 questions for you to answer that you can copy and post on your blog with your answers.

WEEK 4 QUESTIONS
  1. What do you see when you look out your bedroom window?   The house next door, lol. That isn't as bad as it sounds. My neighbor has peacocks and chickens for pets. Some of them are quite beautiful and I love looking at them:)
  2. Are you watching Dancing With The Stars?  Not this season. I have watched it previously though. This season I am watching The Event, The Defenders, Hawaiian Five O, Both NCIS's. Unfortunately that is all I can fit into my schedule:(
  3. Are you a football fan or are you forced to watch because your spouse has the remote control? I am not really a big football fan but my daughter is and so is my Dad and my brother. So I am sorta stuck hearing about it even if I don't watch it. I really enjoy watching Baseball.
Hope you will join in on the fun! I would love to hear your answers!!

The Book of Unholy Mischief Blog Tour

The Book of Unholy Mischief: A NovelIt is 1498, the dawn of the Renaissance, and Venice teems with rumors of an ancient book that holds the secret to unimaginable power. It is an alchemist's dream, with recipes for gold, immortality, and undying love. Everyone, rich and poor alike, speculates about the long-buried secrets scrawled in its pages and where it could possibly be hidden within the labyrinthine city. But while those who seek the book will stop at nothing to get it, those who know will die to protect it.
As a storm of intrigue and desire circles the republic that grew from the sea, Luciano, a penniless orphan with a quick wit and an even faster hand, is plucked up by an illustrious chef and hired, for reasons he cannot yet begin to understand, as an apprentice in the palace kitchen. There, in the lavish home of the most powerful man in Venice, he is initiated into the chef's rich and aromatic world, with all its seductive ingredients and secrets.
Luciano's loyalty to his street friends and the passion he holds for a convent girl named Francesca remain, but it is not long before he, too, is caught up in the madness. After he witnesses a shocking murder in the Palace dining room, he realizes that nothing is as it seems and that no one, not even those he's come to rely on most, can be trusted. Armed with a precocious mind and an insatiable curiosity,
Luciano embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the truth. What he discovers will swing open the shutters of his mind, inflame his deepest desires, and leave an indelible mark on his soul.
Rich with the luxurious colors and textures of Venice, The Book of Unholy Mischief delights the senses and breathes fresh life into an age defined by intellectual revival and artistic vibrancy. A luminous and seductive novel, it is, at its heart, a high-spirited tribute to the fruits of knowledge and the extraordinary power of those who hold its key. In a world of violence an d in trigue, who guards the truth?

Which Cover do you prefer?
US:
The Book of Unholy Mischief: A Novel

UK

To be honest the UK edition speaks more of the story the the US edition. I feel as though the boy running is Luciano and I feel the desperation he felt so many times.

My Review:
In this book everyone is wanting a potion. Our story teller Luciano wants a love potion. This got me to thinking about what I would want if someone offered me a "magic potion"? Would I want wealth? Knowledge? Happiness? Love? I am not sure and I am so glad I am not faced with really figuring it out. This book took a little bit to get into and I will admit I was a little confused at first. Once I got into it though things really started to flow and I found myself understanding a little more about what was happening. I do not read many books set in this time period so it was very interesting to learn how things were done then. There is a lot of food, a lot of mystery, some magic and a little love in this book. I very much appreciated the way the author wove an interesting story. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys ancient history, a little mystery and a little love. Definitely more of a winter read:) Also, I am not sure I will ever view peeling an onion the same way again;)

The Lacuna Blog Tour/Give Away!

In her most accomplished novel, Barbara Kingsolver takes us on an epic journey from the Mexico City of artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo to the America of Pearl Harbor, FDR, and J. Edgar Hoover. The Lacuna is a poignant story of a man pulled between two nations as they invent their modern identities.
Born in the United States, reared in a series of provisional households in Mexico—from a coastal island jungle to 1930s Mexico City—Harrison Shepherd finds precarious shelter but no sense of home on his thrilling odyssey. Life is whatever he learns from housekeepers who put him to work in the kitchen, errands he runs in the streets, and one fateful day, by mixing plaster for famed Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. He discovers a passion for Aztec history and meets the exotic, imperious artist Frida Kahlo, who will become his lifelong friend. When he goes to work for Lev Trotsky, an exiled political leader fighting for his life, Shepherd inadvertently casts his lot with art and revolution, newspaper headlines and howling gossip, and a risk of terrible violence.
Meanwhile, to the north, the United States will soon be caught up in the internationalist goodwill of World War II. There in the land of his birth, Shepherd believes he might remake himself in America’s hopeful image and claim a voice of his own. He finds support from an unlikely kindred soul, his stenographer, Mrs. Brown, who will be far more valuable to her employer than he could ever know. Through darkening years, political winds continue to toss him between north and south in a plot that turns many times on the unspeakable breach—the lacuna—between truth and public presumption.
With deeply compelling characters, a vivid sense of place, and a clear grasp of how history and public opinion can shape a life, Barbara Kingsolver has created an unforgettable portrait of the artist—and of art itself. The Lacuna is a rich and daring work of literature, establishing its author as one of the most provocative and important of her time.

About Barbara Kingsolver

Barbara Kingsolver is the author of seven works of fiction, including the novels The Lacuna, The Poisonwood Bible, Animal Dreams, and The Bean Trees, as well as books of poetry, essays, and creative nonfiction. Her most recent work of nonfiction is the enormously influential bestseller Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life. Kingsolver’s work has been translated into more than twenty languages and has earned literary awards and a devoted readership at home and abroad. In 2000, she was awarded the National Humanities Medal, our country’s highest honor for service through the arts. She lives with her family on a farm in southern Appalachia.
Learn more about Barbara Kingsolver at her website.

My Review:
I read the Poisonwood Bible awhile back and was really looking forward to reading this. I think Kingslover has a way with words and her books can speak to you on a level that most can't. While I very much enjoyed Poisonwood Bible I can't say I enjoyed this one as much. The story line was a little out of my reach and I found myself wandering at times. Even so the story was compelling enough for me to continue reading and once I finished it I was very satisfied with the story as a whole. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that wants a great dramatic story. I think it would pair nicely with a cozy evening in your favorite chair and glass of wine. I normally don't promote alcoholic beverages with books but this book is full bodied like a fine wine.

Giveaway Time!
I would like to give away my copy of The Lacuna to one lucky reader ( sorry wine is not included, lol) If you would like to win please leave a comment along with your e-mail addy below. No PO Boxes and US addresses only. Contest closes September 30th, 2010.

The Passage- A kinda Review.

The PassageFFirst, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.
As civilization swiftly crumbles into a primal landscape of predators and prey, two people flee in search of sanctuary. FBI agent Brad Wolgast is a good man haunted by what he’s done in the line of duty. Six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte is a refugee from the doomed scientific project that has triggered apocalypse. He is determined to protect her from the horror set loose by her captors. But for Amy, escaping the bloody fallout is only the beginning of a much longer odyssey—spanning miles and decades—towards the time and place where she must finish what should never have begun.
With The Passage, award-winning author Justin Cronin has written both a relentlessly suspenseful adventure and an epic chronicle of human endurance in the face of unprecedented catastrophe and unimaginable danger. Its inventive storytelling, masterful prose, and depth of human insight mark it as a crucial and transcendent work of modern fiction.

My Review:

I honestly do not know how to review this book. I even went onto Amazon to read those reviews to see how people put their feelings into words. Even that didn't help. None of them even came close to feeling how I felt. I think my Mom is right. When I read I make the characters my friends. I live with them for awhile. I love them, I hate them, I loathe them, I laugh with them and I cry with them. I have always been this way with books. I have looked at reading as a time to escape. Not just my day but my life, the people in it and even some of the troubles. I think every reader feels that way at some point in time. This intensified with The Passage. The book is over 700 pages long how could I not become attached to these people?

I loved, loved, loved this book and I hated, hated, hated it. I sincerely think my answer changed on any given day. One day I couldn't stop talking about it, the next day I couldn't stand it. On thes days I hated it I had  a magnitude of reasons. The book changed, someone I cared about died, it's boring, etc, the list goes on.  On the days I loved it I had a magnitude of reasons. It's exciting, there is so much drama, it's scary, OMG I can't believe that happened. See why I am confused? My MIL said that this is the first time she has ever heard me so undecided about a book. She has known me for almost 15 years and we share a lot about books.

I know you are saying "Shut up Bobbie and tell me if I should read the book." Yes, you should read it. Will you love it? Yes. Will you hate it? Yes. However, I think everyone should experience it. Nothing in the book is as it should be. Nothing that happens is written in stone. I am definitely looking forward to the sequel. The ending made me literally lay down my kindle and sit in shock for almost 10 minutes. Looking back on the book and really thinking about it I have come to the conclusion that no matter how I felt at different areas of the book I loved it. I give it 5 stars and I hardly ever give any book 5 stars.

I think any die hard reader should at least attempt to read this book and form their own opinion. When you do, come back and let me know, I am dying to talk to people about it:)

For those that have read the book ( do not go here if you haven't read it ) you may want to check this out. I had a blast over here for a couple of hours: http://www.findsubjectzero.com/archives/20

*Funny thing that happened while reading the book. I was in the middle of a very intense part  of the book ( for those that have read it it was during the everyone is awake sequence) my daughter who had a horrible cold sneezed. It scared me so bad I threw my kindle down. LOL. She laughed about that for ages.

Would you like to Ask a Killer a Question?

The beautiful and talented Robin Spano, Dead Politician Society, introduced me to Annabel Davis a while back. Ms. Davis is interviewing a murderer and has asked if we would like to help her. Below is part of the interview and Ms. Davis needs some questions from a different perspective. Also, Robin is on hand if you wish to ask her some questions about her book or about Murder in general. For something un-book related you may want to ask her about her love of Motorcycles:)

We’re here in the middle of Dead Politician Society. Annabel Davis, a reporter in the novel, is interviewing the murderer anonymously.

Annabel: How old were you when you realized you were capable of murder?
Murderer: I’ve always known.
Annabel: Did you torture puppies as a kid? Start fires? That kind of thing?
Murderer (laughs): No. I had a happy childhood. No arson or animal cruelty.
Annabel: Then I don’t get it. How could you have so much rage inside that you’d want to kill people?
Murderer: This isn’t rage. I’m making the world a better place. Haven’t you ever been so unimpressed by a politician that you wished them dead?
Annabel: No. I’ve wanted to vote them out of office. Maybe throw eggs at them. But not kill them.
Murderer: Hm. Well, we’re different, then.
Annabel:What if you get caught? Will it be worth it?
Murderer: I expect to get caught. The police can only stay idiots for so long. I’m just hoping my mandate will be complete when they catch up to me. But if it’s not, at least I’ve made a difference, right?
Annabel:  So you have a plan? A hit list of who’s going to die?
Murderer: Yup. I have six people I’d like to eliminate. After that, I can live my life normally.
Annabel: Is your conscience not suffering even a little?
Murderer: My conscience feels better than ever. Killing these politicians is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Now that my plan is in action, I feel kind of peaceful.
Annabel: Do you have a personal vendetta against this list of six? Or is your motive truly altruisitic?
Murderer: Sometimes one is the same as the other. You change the world by changing your world.
Annabel: Is that something you learned in philosophy class? We both know the police think you’re a university student.
Murderer: They think that because I want them to.
Annabel: Are you a member of the Dead Politician Society?
Murderer:Ha ha. Is that what the press is calling us? I guess that’s fitting.
Annabel: How do you access the politicians? Do you move in their circles?
Murderer: My god, I’m not going to answer that. Do you have any more questions, or can I get back to this homework assignment?

Feel free to post follow-up questions for the killer in the comment section. He or she will answer them, provided it doesn’t give their identity away. You can also ask me (Robin) questions. I’ll probably phrase my answers more kindly than the killer will.
RS

Robin Spano grew up in Toronto, studied physics in New Brunswick, and dropped out to explore North America on her motorcycle. She met her husband while working as a waitress and helped him run his Toronto pool room until they moved to Vancouver. She writes full time, plotting murder and living vicariously through her undercover protagonist.

BBAW #3 Book or Genre inspired by another Blogger.

Before we get into todays activity we need to do a little dancing! This is my 200th post! Yippee!!! Doing the book bloggy dance!

Todays question:
Book bloggers can be some of the most influential people around!  Today we invite you to share with us a book or genre you tried due to the influence of another blogger.  What made you cave in to try something new and what was the experience like?

My Answer:
This is a very interesting question. I had to do a little thinking about this one because I have been influenced to try so many books by bloggers. So I thought I would go with my first one:) About a year ago I found a book blog called Caribous Mom. I felt like I had found a treasure. I spent two hours on there the first day and went back again and spent another hour. This is where I found one of my favorite top 3 authors, Kate Morton. She had done a wonderful review of The House at Riverton which intrigued me enough to try it out. I was so happy I did. I absolutely loved the book and it was one of the first books I reviewed. Her blog inspired me to start my first book blog which didn't really go anywhere, lol. If you haven't already please stop by and see her blog. She has so much information and her book reviews are some of the best. You can find her HERE

Who influenced you to try a new book or genre?

Novica- A wonderful opportunity that brought a little sunshine to my day!

Ricky from Novica contacted me asking if I would be willing to do a review of some of their products in exchange for a review. As most of you have seen I very rarely do product reviews, however... they had handbags. If any of you have been over to Regina's blog today to read my interview you will know the last question was answered that I was a handbag fanatic. I really, really hope you will read this entire review because I was simply amazed at what came to my house.

Novica, is a company in association with National Graphic that offers hand made crafts made by various artists all over the world. They offer many options including Corporate Gifts, Fair Trade Gifts, Eco Friendly Gifts, and Unique Gifts.

When I went to the website I was struck by how colorful it was. Everything was catching my eye and even though I knew what I wanted I had to look around at all the different places. After I browsed around I headed for the Handbags. Everything went very smooth and checkout was a breeze. My code worked perfect and I proceeded very quickly through checkout. Now all I had to do was wait for my handbags to arrive:)

Fast Forward to Today! Shipping took approximately 6 days which was really good because it was coming from Thailand. I opened my package and withdrew the contents and this is what awaited me:

Each package was hand wrapped in beautiful hand made paper and carefully wrapped with beautiful ribbon.

Attached to each package was card describing the piece of art and a little blurb from the artist.

On the paper was amazing leaves that were pressed. So eye catching. This is the first bag I opened.

It is called Pink Elephant artist Jiap Rojjana. It's card is above. It is a  hand beaded sling tote and has big elephant  buttons. The material is 100% cotton and has a zippered inside pocket. The buttons are made out of coconut shells. This bag was so amazingly beautiful that all I could do was look at it. It was soft with a big wide shoulder strap. This purse will definitely not be an every day bag. I will only use it on special occasions.

The second package contained this:

Garden of Light by Jakkarin Yakhet . This is a very trendy bag that is hand stitched. It features two inside pockets and one large outside zippered bag. This one has been dubbed my book bag. It is very large with a very comfortable padded shoulder strap. It is black cotton and I really liked it. It will hold my books and be comfortable on my shoulder. Good deal:)

The third package contained this:

It is called Ultimate Red and is by artist Anchalika Chamnan. The detail on this one is just incredible. I wish I could have gotten a better picture. Also, if you see the little card in the front, it is a card thanking me for my purchase and is signed Team Thailand, move over Team Edward, I have fallen in love with a new team:) This bag will be with me at all times. I love how you can just stick your wallet in it and it has an cell phone pouch that fits inside. I can grab a couple of items and go.

Even though I was given a gift certificate for this purchase I will definitely purchase from Novica again. Especially at Christmas. I will have everything shipped to the intended person just so they can be as pleasantly surprised as I was. Everything was high quality and just fabulous. The thing I like the most is that when I do shop there I will be supporting the arts and cultures of different countries. They are no offering interest free loans to artisans and I for one would love to help anyone. You can read more about the loans HERE

I hope you will stop by the website and browse. You never know what you are going to find. I know for a fact those gorgeous handmade journals are calling my name:)

Meet Regina from Hott Books

Todays BBAW challenge was to interview a fellow blogger. I was honored to be paired up with Regina from Hott Books ( love that name ) I have enjoyed reading her blog the last week and I have come to the conclusion she is an undercover author because her posts are so eloquent and put together:) If you have not stopped by her blog then you really should because she has some great posts so after you read her interview please go over and leave her some bookie love:)

1. Why did you begin Book blogging? I began Book Blogging for two very different reasons. I set up my blog as a way to understand how other blogging tools work. We use Wordpress at work and while it's fairly easy for me I think that many things are extremely difficult for a novice when working in Wordpress, I was looking for something easy for someone who isn't necessarily up on technology, html, or PHP. Then last Christmas I received a Nook and I started to sort through my massive library. While I was going through it I realized that I either hadn't read some of the books or I didn't remember reading them until I started reading a couple of pages. For some reason, the back cover never 'feels' like the same story to me. So I decided to start blogging with what I'd put on that back cover of each of the books - as well as a few of my own thoughts & a rating. This way I now know what I've read and have a much easier tool to reference from anywhere. I had been using an excel spreadsheet and trying to print that out with me and take it when I went to the book store. It worked well for my TBR list but not so well for my previously read & own lists.
2. When did you become an avid reader? What was the first book you remember reading? I honestly don't remember not reading but I do remember that the summer before I entered the 6th grade we moved to a house just a few blocks from the library. It was the best move my parents ever made! I read every Nancy Drew book they had that summer - more than 60!
3. 2010 has been a really great year for some fascinating books. Which book was your favorite this year and why? Actually, my favorite book so far this year was Sizzle by Julie Garwood. I absolutely adore the Buchanan family. However, I will admit that this year Jayne Ann Krentz & Nora Roberts have released books that I'm eagerly anticipating reading - I've just spent the summer trying to find new authors and will read the beloved ones beginning in November.
4. When choosing a book what do you look at first, the author, cover, or summary? WOW, what a question! I have authors that I love and I always get their books no matter the cover or summary. However, I guess for other authors I guess I have to give you a three part answer because I read book blogs daily to find new books to add to my TBR stack and I visit local book sales & used book stores for additions to my collections and my criteria for new books differs with each. When I'm reading blogs I generally look at the title first, then author, then cover, if one of those appeal to me AND the blogger gives it a review I find appealing (sometimes the blogger doesn't like it but I still think I might) then I'll add it to my BN wishlist or my Goodreads TBR list. However, when I visit bookstores or the local sales I always look at the cover first but won't buy it unless the summary appeals to me.
5. Tell me something about yourself that isn't on your blog:) Well, there isn't much about me that can't be found somewhere on my blog but a little known fact is that we're part of a very large and very close family. My father-in-law is one of thirteen kids, my mother-in-law is one of five, and I am one of five. We spend lots of time visiting with our extended family. We have family dinners at least twice a week and visit with everyone else frequently, as well.
6. Do you have any blogging tips you would like to share? The biggest thing I've learned in the last eight months is that blogging is a pleasure not a job. I tend to forget that and get worried if I don't have something to post each day. I know I'm just a bit obsessive...

Thanks for stopping by Regina! I really enjoyed interviewing you and reading your answers.

Bobbie

BBAW: First Treasure

Let’s talk about that first treasure today.
For those of you who participated in BBAW last year, what’s a great new book blog you’ve discovered since last year’s BBAW?
For those you new to BBAW, what was the first book blog you discovered?

I was actually around for last years BBAW but I was really in the corner just looking at book blogs and making a TBR list:)  A great new book blog I have discovered since then was Book Journey owned by a wonderful lady named Sheila.
I met Sheila when she e-mailed from Dewey's Read A Thon to let me know they needed another book blogger to sponsor a give away. We e-mailed back and forth for a bit. I don't remember what I e-mailed her about after the read a thon but she was so nice and answered my questions. After that I started popping onto her blog daily ( I still do but don't always leave a comment ) and I try to always do her What are you Reading Monday's. She has great Author interviews and some awesome Book Reviews. I love how she always comments back and she is always doing something, lol. If you haven't already please stop by her blog and look around. I think you will find it a very nice place to visit often. She is wonderful lady and a great bloggy friend and I am honored to know her.

It Is Finished

The Passage is finished. I stayed up last night until I finished it. I had to I couldn't take it anymore. Reading a book for a little over 3 weeks is just to much. I know you are wondering what I thought about it. To be honest I am not really sure what I thought about it. I am still to numb to even put it into words. I am hoping to have my review done by the end of the week so keep checking back.

It's Monday What Are You Reading?

This week has not been a good week for reading. All I have read this week is The Passage. I am determined not to open another book up until I finish reading this book. According to Kindle I am 71% of the way through and I have to tell you this is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read and it may just be my top pick of 2010.

Even though I didn't read a lot this week I do have some books I am looking forward to reading:)

The Summer Guest by Justin Cronin
The Postcard Killers by James Patterson
Indulgence In Death by JD Robb

Hopefully I will get through The Passage this week and move onto some more books:)

Guest Post- Bill Walker- Author of A Note from an Old Acquaintance

Dear Mr. Walker,
What motivated you to write this book?

I’ve always been fascinated by history and by the past.  I guess you could say that I’m naturally nostalgic.  With the future uncertain, the past beckons with a golden light that is hard to resist.  That’s what motivated me to write A Note from an Old Acquaintance.  I was also motivated to try something new as a writer. For the most part, my previous books tended to be more plot-driven, more in the vein of a mystery or thriller.  And while this book contains a dash of those elements, the story is much more focused on the two main characters and how they meet, fall in love, and are separated by circumstances they cannot control.
Aside from being a nostalgic person, I’m also an incurable romantic.  For me, the idea of reconnecting with a lost love is something very powerful–something I believe will resonate for readers, as it does for me.  I also wanted to explore how two very different men, with different backgrounds and temperaments could love the same woman so intently and how dissimilar that love could be.
For Brian and Joanna, their connection is primal, spiritual, and intellectual.  Each understands what it takes to create their art and each draws inspiration from the other.  On the other hand, Joanna’s fiancĂ©, Erik sees her more as an object of worship, something to put on a pedestal.  What he sees in Joanna is the ultimate inspiration for his need for wealth and power.
So, what I’ve tried to do is write something that will speak to readers of every stripe, men included.  Hopefully, that will be the case.  For the one thing writers want is to be read and appreciated, an accomplishment that is getting harder and harder to realize.

A graduate of Emerson College's prestigious film school, Bill wrote and directed his first feature film, Pawn, while still a student. After graduation, he founded Newbury Filmworks, Inc., an award-winning production company renowned for making high-quality corporate films and commercials.

In 1990, Bill relocated to Los Angeles, and began a freelance story analysis career for various studios and independent production companies, while devoting his spare time to the writing of novels, short stories, and screenplays. He is also a highly-respected graphic designer, specializing in book and dust jacket design. He has worked on books by such luminaries as: Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Dean Koontz, and Stephen King. In addition, Bill is a member of the Authors Guild.

He has won awards for his screenwriting, his two short story collections for Mid-Graders, Five-Minute Frights and Five-Minute Chillers, are perennial Halloween favorites, and his first novel, Titanic 2012, was enthusiastically received by readers. His latest novel, A Note from an Old Acquaintance was released in 2009. Bill lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Debbie, and their sons, Jeffrey and Brian.

Thank you so much Mr. Walker for coming over and speaking with us:)
