It's Monday, What Are You Reading

This is a great meme from Book Journey. Please go check out her blog, she has great stuff:)

Last week wasn't a great week for reading but I did get two books finished:
The Devlins Diary-- by Christi Phillips
Summer At Tiffany-- Marjorie Hart

Summer at Tiffany will be reviewed on Thursday June 3rd as part of the blog tour so make sure you come back:)

One book I am definitely reading this week is:
Looking for Lincoln-- by Philip B. Kunhardt-- I am so looking forward to reading this book. I have always loved Lincoln and it will fascinating to see another persons thoughts and feelings on him.

I also have two reviews coming up. So be on the lookout for them. I know that I don't have a ton of things going on like other blogs and it isn't because I haven't had offers it is just I am trying very hard not to grow really quick:) I want a good quality blog that builds a readership. So I appreciate everyone that is hanging around with me:)

Book Bloggy Happenings- Tomorrow

Book Bloggy Happenings are a little late this week because of my back:) I am hoping to get them posted tomorrow:)

Til We Read Again,
Bobbie

Trip To New York:)

I meant to post this yesterday but the bus ride really messed my back up so I was in bed most of the day, lol. First off let me start by saying if you have an opportunity to see Memphis The Musical, go! It was phenomenal and the cast is so talented. I was enthralled from the start. It was such a rare opportunity and I enjoyed it a lot. Now for pictures, whoo hoo!

First I have to tell you about the cutest little library I saw going into New York. I wanted so bad to go inside and have a look around.

This was my first view of New York City, what a welcome:

The bus dropped us off on a side street and we had to walk a block to get to Times Square. This is what I saw when I got to the corner. I just stopped and gawked, lol. I have never seen such big buildings or so many digital advertisements. A lot of them changed ever few minutes and I was very enthralled with that lol. There was so many limos, taxi's and these guys that rode on bikes with wagons on the back. I am riding one of those when I go back:)

We hit a few traffic jams along the way and we only had an hour to sight see. So naturally my daughter wanted to go to the Toys R Us. It is one of the largest in the US and is two stories. Here is the front:

Big Picture of Woody:)

On the second floor is a huge life size Barbie Dream House. So that was the first stop. I collect Barbie's and have hundreds:) Thankfully Dakotah loves Barbie as much as I do. Here is the front of the house:

Here is Dakotah in front of the many cases full of Barbie's

After we finished at Toys R Us ( I was proud we didn't spend a lot of money) we went back down the street toward the venue that we would be seeing Memphis. It was already crowded 45 minutes before show time. It looked like it was the hottest ticket in town. Here is the Marquee:

The Front of the Theater:

You can read the full synopsis HERE.  The actor that played Huey reminded me a little bit of Heath Ledger doing his Joker role in Batman. He tended to take big breaths before speaking and it kind of irritated me at times. Also, he acted like he was drunk most of the musical which I guess is what he was supposed to do but I felt it didn't really lend anything to the musical. Just kind of made him look crazy. In all fairness though, he was crazy. We went into this musical blind and even the teacher didn't know what was going to happen. This is not a kid friendly musical. There was a lot of cussing, some sexy dancing, and had some adult themes. My daughter was kind of embarrassed a couple of times and did not enjoy the cussing. IMO though even with its minor quirks it was an excellent musical for adults and I would love to go again. However, I would definitely make it an adult only night out. If you are looking for a family friendly musical may I suggest:

Mary Poppins The Musical  which is getting rave reviews and I did talk to some locals that said it was amazing and a must see.
For older kids I would suggest The Addams Family Musical starring Nathan Lane, who is so amazing, and it looks fabulous.

After the musical we boarded the busses for home. Going down the road I got to witness this car. It was an advertisement for a bar/restaurant called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Judging from the website this is a must see attraction the next time we go to New York.  You can see the website HERE

I didn't get a picture of the trunk but it also had a mummy and the mummy's hand was on the lid like it was trying to close it.

All in all it was a fabulous time and now that I have a taste for New York I will definitely go back. After all I still did not get a piece of New York Pizza:)

The Devlin Diary Book Tour

All information is from the Book Website located HERE  ( except my thoughts of course:)

Description

From the bestselling author of The Rossetti Letter comes a “thrilling” (Library Journal) novel of intrigue, passion, and royal secrets that shifts tantalizingly between Restoration-era London and present-day Cambridge, England.
London, 1672. A vicious killer stalks the court of Charles II, inscribing the victims’ bodies with mysterious markings. Are the murders the random acts of a madman?Or the violent effects of a deeply hidden conspiracy?
Cambridge, 2008. Teaching history at Trinity College is Claire Donovan’s dream come true—until one of her colleagues is found dead on the banks of the River Cam. The only key to the professor’s unsolved murder is the seventeenth-century diary kept by his last research subject, Hannah Devlin, physician to the king’s mistress. Through the arcane collections of Cambridge’s most eminent libraries, Claire and fellow historian Andrew Kent follow the clues Hannah left behind, uncovering secrets of London’s dark past and Cambridge’s murky present and discovering that the events of three hundred years ago still have consequences today. . . .
Christi Phillips is the author of The Rossetti Letter, which has been translated into six foreign languages. Her research combines a few of her favorite things: old books, libraries, and travel. When she’s not rummaging around in an archive or exploring the historic heart of a European city, she lives with her husband in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she is at work on her next novel, set in France. Visit www.christi-phillips.com.
My Thoughts:
This book was amazing. It was suspenseful, well written and kept me turning the pages during my trip to NYC. If you love historical fiction you will love this. The ending will leave you in shock:) This is definitely one to take on vacay even if your vacay consists of sitting under a tree in the backyard.

It's Monday, What Are You Reading

This is a fabulous Meme from my good friend Sheila at Book Journey.

Before I start about my week I just want to say thanks to everyone that commented on my Chat with Sheila and My Bloggy Happenings. I am really feeling the love. I have made such good friends in the book blogging community and I feel very privileged to be in the company of such amazing women:)

What am I reading this week? Well I am finishing up Devlin's Diary by Christi Phillips. Don't forget to stop by my blog this Thursday for the blog tour. I am very excited because this is my first one:)

I was so happy when Summer at Tiffany  by Marjorie Hart came to my door. I wanted to open it and dive right in but I decided to keep it for this weekend because my blog tour for this book is June 3rd. I wanted my thoughts and feelings on the book to be fresh. I am looking forward to finding me a comfy chair and reading this book.

I know it is a light week. I have a good excuse! Tomorrow I will be in Saint Mary's City, MD chaperoning my youngest daughters field trip. I am very excited because this is a new place for me and since I love history this is going to be right up my alley!

On Wednesday I will be in New York City! Yep, New York! I am so uber excited. I won't be there for the BEA conference like so many of my bloggy friends, boo who. But I can't be to depressed because I will be there enjoying Memphis The Musical!! It is another field trip for my oldest daughters drama club. I cannot believe we are going to go see such a wildly popular musical. It was nominated for 9 Tony's. I have never been to New York City either so it will be an adventure. It will be hard being so close to my bloggy friends and not seeing them though:(

Well that is my week:) I hope everyone is having a great one so far! If you are coming over from the Meme leave me your link so I can come visit you also.

Book Bloggy Happenings-Details

Okay, so this morning I was in the bathtub soaking my poor aching muscles that were throbbing from walking around the Zoo all day yesterday and I was thinking about all the wonderful things I had seen on blogs this week, all the wonderful books I had found and other misc. reading things. I was wondering about doing a post telling everyone about these wonderful things when tada:) a light bulb went off. How about a weekly feature of things going on around the book blogging community?

So that is what I am going to do. A weekly feature of all things book blogging and guess what? I want everyone involved. Have you found a new book? A great post on a fellow bloggers blog? Maybe you have found some great blogging tips around the blogs? If you have and you would like to share please let me know. I will be starting the feature tomorrow and I will be posting this one just to give you a heads up on the look and feel.

As with anything there has to be rules.

So here is what I am looking for:
1. Books you have found this week.
2. Links to interesting blog posts about reading, writing, or books.
3. Links to a great book community on line.
4. Links to new reading challenges.
5. Weekly Meme's
6. Links to your posts on your blogs. I will choose which one gets featured.

Here is what I am NOT looking for:
1. Links to give aways. This will be not a give away kind of feature.
2. Links that have nothing to do with Reading, Writing, book blogging, etc. ( i.e. crafts, coupons, etc.)

This is open to everyone! So PLEASE spread the word! The name of the feature will be: Book Bloggy Happenings. If you have something you would like to put in the feature please email it to me at tilwereadagain@gmail.com . Please include your name, a link to your blog and your submission including links. All submissions are due Thursday's by 12 Noon EST. That way I will have time to put them in that Fridays post. Any submissions after that will be held for the next week. The feature will be every Friday. You CAN submit more than one item. So you can submit a book list and a bloggy post:)

On another note, Thank You Wednesdays will return on June 2, 2010. Due to the field trips next week and this week I was unable to get a post together:)
